R. S. Markel is the author and illustrator of the heartwarming Lillybeth and Hinsberth novels. An insatiably curious polymath, he is also a coauthor of academic publications in three disciplines, who, on the approach of his avid book-loving daughter's sixth birthday, rediscovered his passion for writing and illustrating. So enamored was his daughter with the stories he would create and the endless piles of books gathered from their frequent jaunts to the local library that he decided to write a short story with a meaningful message to present to her as a special birthday gift.
After finally sitting down to write, the proverbial floodgates were released. With a sudden burst of inspiration and after writing non-stop both day and night, in little more than eleven weeks he had written a 440 page novel, Lillybeth and Hinsberth: The Edges of Things. The flood continued and after two years spent editing and illustrating The Edges of Things he wrote an epic 550 page sequel titled Lillybeth and Hinsberth: The Essence of Things, continuing the adventures of the original cast and expanding their whimsical world. He is currently working on the third Lillybeth and Hinsberth novel.
Mr. Markel sincerely hopes readers of all ages will be delighted and inspired by sharing the lives of his colorful cast of characters. He also wishes to send a simple reminder: Life is precious - do not wait another moment to set off in pursuit of your dreams!
R. S. Markel has invited Mr. Abselard, a dear porcine friend, confidant, and resident of The Farm, to share a few thoughts on a wide smattering of topics gleaned from the pig's venerable tradition of their morning conversations. We do hope you enjoy this new addition.
